About
Shelley Holmes
Hi,
I'm Shelley Holmes
I’ve been a passionate leader all my life (you guessed it ... when I was little I was called bossy!). Through time and experience, I’ve been able to morph away from Miss Bossy, into someone who lives to inspire leaders to live, love and lead remarkably.

I do this by guiding people like you to shift mindsets and skillsets in your business so you increase profits and you become bigger than the people and personal problems you face each day.
When you and I get this right, you become rockstars in your industry.
Below is my story. If you want a more 'canned' professional bio, you can download one here
A brief history
It was in 1992 that I got the opportunity of a lifetime. I began working at Colgate-Palmolive on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Being one of the key Leaders in the start-up of the facility I was heavily involved in the design, implementation, and leadership of a culture created for sustained high-performance.
To give you a hint, as to how forward-thinking we were, back in 1992, my title was People & Culture Leader. A title that seems to have become popular in the last few years!
By 2000, I was juggling a full-time career and my 5-year-old daughter. So I decided to start working part-time at Colgate.
By this stage, we had received national and international recognition as a high-performance site. We had many companies coming and benchmarking against us. And that's how the business got started. I had many requests from other organisations to come and help them understand how to create high-performance in their workplaces.
Hung out my shingle!
I officially opened the doors of my business in 2000, when Qantas approached me and asked if I could help them to set up their new facility (Snap Fresh) in Queensland to produce their airline meals.
Around the globe, I’ve worked with organizations with total revenues in excess of $116 billion. I've supported thousands of individual leaders through, websites, coaching, consulting, workshops, webinars, audio programs and the Make A Dent Leadership website (which has over 5,000 visitors per day).
I've been blessed to help many individuals and their organizations to transform. My intention is, that when I walk away from a client, they feel inspired, they have a sense of possibility, and their business results have improved.
The re-brand
In 2014 I re-named the business Make A Dent Leadership, which more closely represents what I hope you and I will do for the universe. And that same year, my daughter Connor joined the business. She's the webmaster making all these lovely pages and ecourses for you.
The 'office'

We live on the beautiful Gold Coast, in Australia. Weather-wise it's a cross between California and Florida. Which means lots of sunshine and plenty of days of the year where we can be in the great outdoors playing. Just an hour south of Brisbane, this lovely little city really is a great place to work and live.

I (primarily) work from home - coaching (over the phone and Skype) remarkable leaders from around the world, writing articles and creating new products for this site, that help people (leaders in particular) to make their dent in the universe.
It's 20 steps from my bedroom to my office, which, I've learnt can be a blessing and a nightmare!
Meet the family

Connor
My gorgeous 26 year old daughter Connor, who now works full-time in the business with me. (one of the biggest things we've learnt about each other recently, is how incredibly different our work styles are!).
She is an amazing young woman who lights up my life.
Have you heard the saying "our children are our greatest teachers". Well this is so true for Connor and I.
She teaches me so much, in so many ways, what a blessing she is, what a challenge she is!

Scruffy
We live on 2 acres with Scruffy (for the first time we've got a small dog and now I 'get' how people get so ga ga over their little dogs, he's absolutely stolen our hearts).
A friend of mine recently commented that you must have the most intelligent dog, with the amount of time he sits looking at a computer screen. Yep, you guessed it, he spends a lot of time snuggled up next to me (especially in winter).

Quickdraw
My horse Quickdraw - weird name I know, but he came with it and I didn't have the heart to change it. He's an Australian Stock Horse (who is apparently no good at Polocrosse, but I'm doing my best to turn him into a dressage horse!)
My Dad was a jockey, and I've been on horseback since I was 18 months old! These majestic animals teach you a lot about humility, strength, power, and leadership.

Meelos
And, we can't forget Meelos - a BIG personality and a terrifically fun cat! Because he was raised with Scruffy, we think, he thinks he's a dog ... except when he's bringing home brown snakes (one of the most deadliest in the world), to show us how clever he is. However, in his older age, he tends to spend more time lazying around the house.
(and yes, he is laying on my desk...)
Using all I've learnt, from the personal growth adventure I've been on over the years, I've designed a fabulous life, which I deeply appreciate.
Generally, I work less than 20 hours each week. And the wonderful thing is that it can be at any hour that suits me. If I'm awake at 2.00 am then I can work. If I want to ride my horse at 2.00 pm then that's fine too. In fact it's 1.00 pm and I've just arrived back from morning tea and the movies with a girlfriend.
A couple of days a month I'm out and about running workshops or speaking. I then get to be with many amazing people who stimulate and challenge me to use more of my potential.
My hobbies are reading, horse-riding, Arakan (a martial art), traveling to experience new things and meet new people, spending time with friends, sailing, going to the gym and yoga. I am into spirituality - no particular religion - but each day focus on living an as aligned life as I can.
Thinking about what I've written on the page, I am so very lucky. I'm in a most wonderful place: physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. Is life perfect? Of course not, there's plenty of challenges (as Tony Robbins says - if you don't have challenges you are dead!) ... but is it delightful? ABSOLUTELY!
If you are thinking that I sound like someone you'd like to have on your support team, you can discover more about being coached by me, or discover what I describe as my ideal client here.
When asked how I am, I always respond with a heart-felt
'Terrific! And getting better'
Thanks so much for taking the time to get to know us better. Connor and I are thrilled that we've connected, and look forward to being in your support team as you make your dent in the universe.
Smiles
